Australia's Luckiest Lottery-Winning Suburbs Revealed
Published 4th August, 2022
Australia’s luckiest postcode is in Perth’s south, at least when it comes to lotto wins.
The postcode of 6163, which takes in Hamilton Hill, Yangebub and Spearwood, won five division one-winning tickets in the past financial year.
The five wins put it one above Frankston, in Melbourne’s south, which has had four successful division one tickets.
In New South Wales, the coastal tourist town of Port Macquarie sold three division one winners.
Queensland had two triple-winning postcodes: Bundaberg and North Bundaberg, and Rural View and Slade Point.
The postcode for Adelaide itself, 5000, sold three division one winners.
In Tasmania, only one postcode sold more than one division one winner. Launceston and Newstead sold two successful tickets.
No postcode in either the Northern Territory or the Australian Capital Territory won more than once.
“While we saw pockets of major lottery prizes across Australian states and territories last financial year, it’s important to remember that a division one win can land anywhere,” The Lott’s James Eddy said.
“Some players tell us they deliberately pick outlets that have recently sold a major prize in the hope of continuing the winning streak, while other players choose different outlets, believing good fortune awaits for them elsewhere.”
Victoria holds the record for the most lottery wins statewide for the sixth year in a row.
Division one winners in Victoria won $467 million in total.
Narrowly behind were winners in the NSW and the ACT, claiming $464.8 million in prize money. NSW and the ACT are counted as one by The Lott.
Despite Victoria having more winners, NSW and the ACT’s wins created more millionaires.
